Gluten Free: Coeliac Disease

Gluten Free: Coeliac Disease

Step-by-Step guide to a healthy gluten free life!

If you suspect a gluten intolerance or have a diagnosis of Coeliac disease and need evidence based advice on a lifelong gluten free diet, that is both yummy and nutritious, then you've come to right place...

Coeliac disease is also referred to as 'gluten enteropathy' or 'coeliac sprue' and is a LIFELONG autoimmune reaction following consumption of gluten (a protein found in foods containing wheat, barley, and rye).

However, a gluten sensitivity is NOT Coeliac Disease. Although people can experience similar symptoms such as bloating, cramping, constipation/diarrhoea,fatigue, skin sensitivity, headaches, tiredness, anxiety to name a few...

In coeliac disease, gluten causes the immune system to produce antibodies that attack the delicate lining of the bowel, which is responsible for absorbing nutrients and vitamins from the food we eat, therefore it is essential that you get the right advice to ensure your diet is gluten-free and nutritionally adequate.

Here we assess your symptoms (if any), dietary intake (looking for gluten and nutritional adequacy of your diet), medical diagnosis, and if you have not already got an official diagnosis, assist you in getting tests/diagnosis done via your GP/doctor.

You will get education and support for implementing and adhering to a gluten free diet. Alongside a personalised gluten free diet plan (if required), along with provision of gluten free resources (eating out/ shopping/ recipes) will also be provided. Our lives are constantly changing, and priorities often change too. Therefore, the main goal is ensuring your diet is full of 'nutritious and delicious' foods that are gluten free, and can be adhered to for a lifetime!
